Dr. Lawrence is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in adult and pediatric cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine disorders. Dr. Lawrence focuses his practice in degenerative and traumatic conditions of the spine including disc degeneration and herniation, spinal stenosis, spinal deformity, spinal trauma, spinal tumors and spinal infections. He serves as a Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Utah. His primary clinical interests are cervical and lumbar spine disorders, complex spinal deformity reconstructive surgery, minimally invasive surgery and microscopic spine surgery. Dr. Lawrence’s research interests are centered on spinal biomechanics, improving fusion technologies through stem cell research and patient outcome related research. Dr. Lawrence grew up in Vermont and attended medical school at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut and completed his fellowship training in Spinal Surgery at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Lawrence practices at the University Orthopaedic Center and sees patients in the office on Tuesdays and Friday mornings. He operates at the University Orthopaedic Center and at the University Health Sciences Center in Salt Lake City. He utilizes the latest treatments for this, including various injections, ultrasound guided minimally invasive tendon debridement and shock wave therapy for chronic tendon problems. Dr. Petron truly wants the best for his patients and looks at all evidenced based ,non surgical treatments to better serve their needs. Sometimes non surgical treatments are no longer possible to relieve symptoms. In those cases he is able to refer to the very best subspecialty surgeons for the specific problem to be addressed properly.

Devon Cooper Nixon

Dr. Devon Nixon is a board certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon and an assistant professor of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He is also the fellowship director for the orthopedic surgery foot ankle fellowship. He specializes in orthopedic foot and ankle care with a particular interest in sports-related injuries and lower extremity trauma, including care of collegiate and professional athletes. His main goals in treatment are to improve patient function and quality of life whether through non-operative care or, if needed, with surgery. He sees patients and operates at both the University Orthopedic Center and the South Jordan Health Center. Originally from Michigan, he graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia, and after college, worked at the National Institutes of Health as a research fellow. He attended medical school at the University of Michigan where he graduated with academic distinction and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society. He completed his residency training at Washington University in St. Louis where he received a clinician-scientist grant from the Orthopedic Research Education Fund (OREF) and was awarded the resident research award. He was an orthopedic foot and ankle fellow at the University of Utah training under Drs. Timothy Beals, Florian Nickisch, and Charles Saltzman. After training, he practiced in Boise, Idaho before returning to the University of Utah in 2021. He has been in practice since 2019. His research has been published in leading orthopedic surgery journals with a focus on patient-reported outcomes. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, committee member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), journal reviewer for Foot and Ankle International, and a member of the Emerging Leaders Program of the American Orthopedic Association (AOA). Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family.
