Dr. Chalmers is the Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs for the University of Utah Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He focuses on the care of all shoulder and elbow problems, from young athletes to shoulder arthritis. His practice includes minimally invasive arthroscopy, ligament and tendon repair, and joint replacement. As a former coach and division I athlete, Dr. Chalmers knows the importance of getting back on the field. He sees patients at the University Orthopaedic Center, the South Jordan Health Center, and Primary Children's Hospital. He serves as the team physician for Salt Lake City Bees triple-A baseball team and the University of Utah baseball team. Dr. Chalmers graduated magna cum laude as a dual major in Biology and Biophysical Chemistry at Dartmouth College. He attended medical school at Columbia University in New York City, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Chalmers completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he received multiple teaching and research awards. He completed his fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at Washington University in Saint Louis. Dr. Chalmers is a native of Portland, Oregon. He enjoys hiking and skiing with his wife, who is an oncologist at Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Devon Cooper Nixon

Dr. Devon Nixon is a board certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon and an assistant professor of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He is also the fellowship director for the orthopedic surgery foot ankle fellowship. He specializes in orthopedic foot and ankle care with a particular interest in sports-related injuries and lower extremity trauma, including care of collegiate and professional athletes. His main goals in treatment are to improve patient function and quality of life whether through non-operative care or, if needed, with surgery. He sees patients and operates at both the University Orthopedic Center and the South Jordan Health Center. Originally from Michigan, he graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia, and after college, worked at the National Institutes of Health as a research fellow. He attended medical school at the University of Michigan where he graduated with academic distinction and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society. He completed his residency training at Washington University in St. Louis where he received a clinician-scientist grant from the Orthopedic Research Education Fund (OREF) and was awarded the resident research award. He was an orthopedic foot and ankle fellow at the University of Utah training under Drs. Timothy Beals, Florian Nickisch, and Charles Saltzman. After training, he practiced in Boise, Idaho before returning to the University of Utah in 2021. He has been in practice since 2019. His research has been published in leading orthopedic surgery journals with a focus on patient-reported outcomes. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, committee member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), journal reviewer for Foot and Ankle International, and a member of the Emerging Leaders Program of the American Orthopedic Association (AOA). Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family.

Nicholas Spina

Nicholas Spina, MD, is a member of the University Of Utah Department Of Orthopaedic Surgery. He specializes in degenerative, traumatic, and oncologic conditions of the spine including lumbar stenosis, cervical myelopathy, and scoliosis. He employs a conservative approach in treating the spine. Dr. Spina’s focus is in restoring patients’ function and helping them to regain their optimal lifestyle. Dr. Spina graduated magna cum laude from Boston College. He attended the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and the Harold Henderson Sankey MD Award recipient for the outstanding graduating medical student in Orthopaedics. He stayed on to complete his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University Of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he held the position of chief resident and was selected by his mentors and peers as the outstanding graduating resident. He followed his residency with an Orhtopaedic spine fellowship here at the University of Utah. He spent one year as faculty in the University Of Washington Department Of Orthopaedics before returning to join the University of Utah department. Dr. Spina is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He enjoys escaping into the mountains whether it be mountain biking, skiing, or hiking. He is currently seeing patients at the University Orthopaedic and Farmington Health Center. Christopher A. Gee

Christopher A. Gee

Dr. Gee is Board Certified in Primary Care Sports Medicine and Emergency Medicine who focuses on the treatment of non-operative musculoskeletal conditions at the University Hospital, South Jordan Health Center, and the University Orthopedic Center. He is a member of the teaching faculty at the University Hospital and educates resident physicians and medical students through clinical teaching rounds and formalized didactic sessions. He is Board Certified in Sports Medicine and treats a number of musculoskeletal, neurologic, pulmonary, cardiac, and metabolic issues surrounding athletes and active patients. He is involved in the core faculty of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship and helps educate Sports Medicine Fellows and resident physicians in clinical settings and through formal didactics. Dr Gee is heavily involved in sports medicine coverage and currently is a Team Physician for the US Speed Skating team and is the Medical Director for the NHL's Utah Hockey Club. He has accompanied Team USA in the Korea and China Olympics. He has also provided medical support for the Tour of Utah. He is the Medical Director for the Salt Lake City Marathon and serves as the attending team physician for Copper Hills High School. He has served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Nitro Circus World Games and Dew Tour Summer and Winter competitions. Dr Gee enjoys working with active people who are trying to improve their health. He enjoys being outdoors running, cycling, camping, skiing and playing with his family.
