As part of MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, South Carolina's only NCI Designated Cancer Center, the MUSC Health Radiation Oncology team is committed to providing the best evidence-based care. Patients are often faced with a difficult decision regarding cancer treatment using surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Using our multidisciplinary approach to cancer care, we will work to determine the best treatment recommendations and deliver the highest quality care. Our staff of physicians, nurses, physicists, dosimetrists, therapists and clinical support staff are ready to answer any questions you have. Dr. Abhay Varma is faculty in neurosurgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his residency in India and fellowships in brain tumor surgery and spine surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Toronto, and the Cleveland Clinic. He specializes in managing adult brain tumors, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation, adult spinal and spine tumors, and peripheral nerve disorders, including children with brachial plexus injuries (neonatal brachial plexopathy). His surgical practice offers microsurgery and endoscopic surgery. He also offers brain mapping and awake craniotomies for patients with brain tumors in eloquent areas, like the motor strip, the speech areas, and perisylvian tumors. Dr. Varma accepts new patients in downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and Murrells Inlet.

Zachary M. Soler, M.D. MSc, joined the MUSC sinus center in 2011. Originally from coastal Florida, Dr. Soler attended medical school at Wake Forest University, followed by a residency in otolaryngology -- head and neck surgery at Oregon Health and Science University. He then completed a fellowship dedicated solely to rhinology and endoscopic sinus surgery at Harvard Medical School. After fellowship, Dr. Soler spent an additional year at the Harvard School of Public Health, earning a Master's Degree in epidemiology.Dr. Soler's practice is dedicated primarily to diseases of the nose, sinuses, and skull base. He treats adults and children with a wide range of conditions, ranging from common allergies and sinusitis to skull base tumors and CSF leaks. He has particular expertise with difficult-to-manage cases of sinusitis, revision sinus surgery, and surgical treatment of sino-nasal tumors. He sees patients in Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, and downtown Charleston.Dr. Soler has authored over 100 manuscripts and book chapters related to otolaryngology and rhinology. His research focus is on optimizing clinical outcomes after medical and surgical treatment of chronic sinusitis. He is a principal investigator on several large studies funded through the National Institutes of Health and the American Rhinologic Society. He is board certified through the American Board of Otolaryngology and a member of the American Rhinologic Society.
