Dr. John Kaczmar is a medical oncologist who specializes in caring for patients with cancers of the head and neck. He attended college at Cornell University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He then obtained his medical degree at Columbia University Medical School in New York City, where he served as president of his class. After medical school, he undertook a residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. There, he served as a member of the resident steering committee and attained an additional certification in health care leadership in quality. Following this, he completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, before joining the Medical University of South Carolina in 2017. There are many challenges involved in treating cancers of the head and neck. Dr. Kaczmar's research interests are focused on overcoming these challenges through the use of the body's own immune system (immunotherapy) and targeted therapies aimed at fighting head and neck cancer growth. In addition to bringing cutting-edge treatment options to patients, he has an interest in working to improve the tolerability of proven treatments so as to maximize quality of life.

Virgilio V. George, M.D. is a colorectal surgeon in Charleston, S.C. His primary academic and clinical focus is in the field of colorectal surgery including benign and malignant disease. Dr. George leads the multidisciplinary team at the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, which recently earned a three-year accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC), recognizing the center’s commitment to providing the best possible care for patients with the disease. Hollings is one of only 22 centers in the country to earn the accreditation and is the first in South Carolina, further highlighting the center as a national leader in treating cancers of the digestive system. Dr. George is developing successful programs in minimally invasive colorectal surgery. This includes collaborations with the division of gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine for inflammatory bowel disease and with the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center to provide specialty surgery services in colorectal surgeries to include robotic surgical techniques. Not only has Dr. George been a very active and creative surgeon, but his research accomplishments have been many. His research interests include a very strong focus in the area of oncology, with scientific interests including work in the basic sciences, specifically in the areas of signal transduction through the application in translational research in certain cancers, including therapy and pharmacogenetics work that has led to multiple publications in the topic of single-site colectomies demonstrating the safety and benefits to the patient. He has studied and performed the most single-site colectomies in the country. He participates in multiple genetic cancer studies as well as American College of Surgeon Oncology Group (ACOSOG) studies focused on laparoscopic versus open colon resection for cancer patients. Dr. George trained as a medical doctor in Venezuela where he attended the Universidad Centroccidental "Lisandro Alvarado" School of Medicine. In 2001, Dr. George moved to the United States to complete a residency program in general surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine. During that time, he developed a special interest in the treatment of colorectal diseases through surgical intervention and in 2006 he completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery under Dr. James Fleshman at Washington University in St. Louis Missouri.

Dr. Kevin Delaney's specialties include all techniques of breast reconstruction, including minimally invasive prepectoral breast reconstruction, surgical conversion from subpectoral to the prepectoral breast reconstruction in patients who have had breast reconstruction with implants but have persistent pain, tightness, animation deformity, poor cleavage, or poor cosmetic outcome. Dr. Delaney performs DIEP flap breast reconstruction as well. He also frequently performs cosmetic breast surgery, including breast augmentation and breast lift surgery as well as cosmetic and reconstructive facial surgery. Dr. Delaney also works closely with the MUSC Weight Loss Surgery Program to help patients complete their journey following weight loss by removing excess skin and fat that frequently develops after weight loss. He has extensive experience in body contouring surgery after weight loss, including abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), brachioplasty (upper arm lift), thigh lift, and liposuction. Dr. Delaney also specializes in the treatment of abdominal wall ventral incisional hernias that require the specialty repair technique of component separation due to the recurrence or large size of the hernias. A graduate of Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM), he completed his general surgery residency as well as a fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Delaney then completed a hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. He is board certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Delaney is currently an assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina.
