The Office of Medical Examiner, governed by the Department of Laboratories and Research, investigates and determines the causes and manners of deaths in Westchester County in New York. The Department of Laboratories and Research is an agency that onducts scientific tests in matters ranging from criminal evidence to public health concerns. The department is also comprised of a forensic sciences division that specializes in the scientific analysis of physical evidence to law enforcement agencies in the county. It operates an environmental laboratory that provides testing services government agencies, hospitals, schools and businesses. The department additionally maintains a microbiology laboratory that provides training to the residents and fellows of the Westchester Medical Center and New York Medical College. The Department of Laboratories and Research is a part of the government of Westchester County in New York.
