Dr. David M. Yousem is the associate dean for professional development in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Department of Radiology and Radiological Science. He specializes in neuroimaging.Dr. Yousem received his B.S. and M.D. degrees at the University of Michigan. He completed a radiology residency at Johns Hopkins and a two-year fellowship in neuroradiology at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his M.B.A. at Johns Hopkins University in 2003.Dr. Yousem's expertise spans the full gamut of neuroradiology techniques including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), angiography, myelography, CT guided aspirations and biopsies, functional MRI, diffusion and perfusion imaging, MR/CT angiography, and 3-D reconstructions. He is a noted authority on disorders of the brain, spine, head and neck, olfaction, cranial neuropathies and neurodegeneration.Dr. Yousem has authored or edited four books—Neuroradiology: THE REQUISITES, Head and Neck Case Review, and Radiology Business Practice: How to Succeed, and Non-Interpretive Skills Case Review, all published by Mosby/Elsevier—and has edited four journal issues. He has published over 250 peer reviewed articles over 50 chapters in books and has lectured on five continents.Dr. Yousem has an RSNA Educator Award sponsored on line course containing over 30 lectures on the Business of Medicine available to the public at https://webcast.jhu.edu/Mediasite/Catalog/Full/2facf598655b40ecaf3e7ee71698b86421. This is currently used by residency programs across the country to fulfill ACGME requirements for business of radiology content.He served as President of the American Society of Neuroradiology in 2008-2009 and as the Secretary of Treasurer of the World Federation of Neuroradiological Societies from 2011 to present. He sits on many of national radiological societies committees.Dr. Yousem has completed two marathons (best time: 3 hours, 54 minutes), a half Ironman, and a full Ironman (2.5-mile swim followed by 112-mile bike ride and then a 26-mile run) competition.

Dr. Melania M. Bembea is Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She holds a joint appointment in the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Bembea came to Johns Hopkins as a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellow in 2006 and joined the PICU faculty as an attending physician in 2009. Beginning in 2015, she became Director of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program in the Children’s Center. Approximately 25–38 neonates, infants, and children are treated with ECMO each year at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Bembea oversees education, quality improvement, and administrative aspects of the program. She also ensures that the program meets quality standards that have earned it recognition from the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) as a Center of Excellence - Gold Level since 2011, and the highest level of recognition, Platinum Level, in 2020. Dr. Bembea finds it extremely rewarding to take care of children and their families and values the tremendous amount of collaboration that occurs between the various disciplines that work together toward a common goal. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Bembea has an active lab studying brain injury biomarkers in critically ill children. The goal of her research is to improve neurologic monitoring in the pediatric intensive care unit and neurologic outcomes following critical illness in children.

Dr. James Fackler is a professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His areas of clinical expertise include acute respiratory distress syndrome, novel respiratory therapies, and critical care informatics.Dr. Fackler received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Illinois and earned his M.D. from Rush Medical College in Chicago. He completed his residencies in pediatrics and anesthesiology and then fellowships in pediatric intensive care and pediatric anesthesia at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His first faculty position was at the Children's Hospital in Boston where he was an early leader in use of the internet for health data exchange and critical care monitoring.Dr. Fackler returned to the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1996 to run the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation program and Respiratory Therapy.He took a "sabbatical" from 2002 to 2006 and worked for the Cerner Corporation developing their critical care and device integration solutions. He has founded three health care informatics-based startups and consults for other device and information integration companies.Dr. Fackler's research interests include optimizing team performance in pediatric critical care. He has mentored pediatric residents, critical care fellows, and biomedical engineering undergrads, Masters and PhD students. His current major focus is on sepsis.He serves as an associate editor for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and as an ad hoc journal reviewer for many notable publications including New England Journal of Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. He is a member of American Association of Artificial Intelligence, American Medical Informatics Association and the Society for Critical Care Medicine. He helped found, and is on the Board of the non-profit, Machine Learning for Healthcare.Dr. Fackler is a frequent lecturer and panelist on the subject of critical care informatics. He is an expert in data integration and its use.
