Thomas Summers, D.O., FACOI, is a board-certified hematologist oncologist at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. He diagnoses and treats patients with solid tumors and benign blood disorders, clotting disorders and lymphomas. Dr. Summers has 25 years of experience in hematology oncology and has held staff and leadership positions at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Tenn., Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth and Cleveland Clinic Florida. After earning his medical degree at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Dr. Summers completed a medical internship at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va. He served two years as a senior medical officer at the Naval Amphibious Base in Norfolk and two years as a medical officer supporting the U.S. Atlantic fleet destroyer squadron. After finishing his military service, Dr. Summers completed an internal medicine residency, serving as chief resident, and an hematology/medical oncology fellowship at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, Jefferson Health. Dr. Summers has experience as a clinical investigator at the National Cancer Institute. He is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists and a member of several professional organizations. Dr. Summers values the bonds he forms with patients and their families, whom he describes as his “patients for life.” He is excited to represent Miami Cancer Institute in Key West and provide patients with access to the best resources, clinical trials and support teams. He remained in New York for four more years to complete a gynecologic oncology fellowship at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. During his fellowship, Dr. Kahn was actively involved in research focused on innovative immunotherapies for ovarian cancer. His positive research results, which included delayed tumor growth and a transformed tumor microenvironment, offer a promising rationale for clinical trials in patients with advanced ovarian cancer. He also conducted research on the regionalization of care for gynecologic malignancies, which involves directing complex surgical procedures to specialized, high-volume centers and surgeons to improve patient outcomes by leveraging the expertise and experience of these centers. Dr. Kahn has published his research work in medical journals and textbooks presented his findings at national symposiums. Anastasia Tousimis, M.D., MBA, is a breast surgical oncologist and serves as deputy director of Baptist Health Cancer Care, chief of breast surgery at Baptist Health Cancer Care, medical director of the Al and Jane Nahmad Women’s Cancer Center and chief medical liaison of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Alliance. Dr. Tousimis has been a practicing breast surgeon for more than 20 years and has held numerous leadership roles at esteemed academic medical institutions. She most recently served as director of the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center at Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach. An accomplished pioneer in oncology and surgery, Dr. Tousimis is actively involved in clinical research to develop cutting-edge technologies and techniques in the field of breast oncologic surgery. She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has presented her research at numerous national symposiums. She has received several awards for her clinical, teaching and research expertise. Dr. Tousimis earned her medical degree at Albany Medical College in New York and a master’s in business administration degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her post-doctoral training includes a general surgery residency at Guthrie Clinic in Pennsylvania, a breast oncology surgery fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and a surgical oncology fellowship in minimally invasive techniques at the European Institute of Oncology in Italy.
