Eric D. Schroeder, M.D., is a gynecologic oncologist at Miami Cancer Institute. Dr. Schroeder provides comprehensive and compassionate gynecologic cancer care, including robotic and laparoscopic surgery. His areas of focus include the surgical and medical management of ovarian, uterine, endometrial, cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancers. Dr. Schroeder and his colleagues perform thousands of robotic surgeries each year. Actively involved in research at Miami Cancer Institute, Dr. Schroeder enrolls as many eligible patients as possible in clinical trials, which helps inform and improve future treatments for gynecologic cancers. He is passionate about his work as a gynecologic oncologist because it allows him to work closely with his patients throughout each step of the treatment journey, from diagnosis to surgery to medical management. Dr. Schroeder takes a holistic approach to treating cancer, considering both the patient and her family. He formulates treatment plans for each woman’s individual needs. Dr. Schroeder also believes in giving patients and their families as much time as they need to address questions, concerns and treatment options. When he is not treating patients, Dr. Schroeder enjoys fishing, scuba diving and snow skiing with his family.

Manuel Ozambela, Jr., M.D., is a urologic surgical oncologist at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. During the fellowship, he worked with a multidisciplinary group of investigators to study rare and aggressive kidney tumors with the goal of identifying novel treatment options. He has authored multiple scientific abstracts, manuscripts and book chapters on various topics in urologic oncology. Through his research, he strives to identify new diagnostic and treatment options for genitourinary cancers, improve patient recovery after surgery and enhance his patients’ quality of life.Understanding that he often meets patients during significantly stressful moments, Dr. Ozambela takes time to talk through diagnoses and treatment options. Through excellent communication and shared decision-making, he works with his patients to create treatment plans that reflect their individual goals. Dr. Ozambela is a South Florida native and enjoys spending time with his growing family when not taking care of patients.

Eleftheria Kalogera, M.D. M.Sc., is a gynecologic oncologist at Miami Cancer Institute. Dr. Kalogera specializes in treating gynecologic cancers, including the surgical and medical management of ovarian, uterine, cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancers. She is fluent in English, Greek, French and Spanish. Dr. Kalogera joined Miami Cancer Institute from the Mayo Clinic, where she completed her training. During her residency, Dr. Kalogera pursued a clinical investigator track, which included an additional year of training. During that time, she earned a Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Science. During her fellowship, she was named an assistant professor in obstetrics and gynecology at the Mayo Clinic. In addition to helping individual patients, Dr. Kalogera is passionate about gynecologic oncology research, with the ultimate goal of helping patients at a broader level. She has presented her research at numerous national and international conferences and has published her work in leading peer-reviewed publications, including the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the International Journal of Gynecologic Cancer. Dr. Kalogera also serves as a reviewer for many scientific publications. During her research fellowship, she, along with an expert research team, was the recipient of the prestigious Mayo Clinic Excellence Through Teamwork Award for serving as co-principal investigator in the Departmental and Multidisciplinary Quality Improvement project, “Enhanced Recovery in Gynecologic Surgery.” This continuing work on Enhanced Recovery After Surgery revolutionized the perioperative care model and has resulted in a major paradigm shift in the gynecologic surgical practice. Dr. Kalogera believes in a compassionate and holistic approach to cancer care, where the importance of respecting and responding to patients’ needs comes first as the foundation of any treatment plan.Her work as a gynecologic oncologist allows her to help patients and their families navigate a challenging and intimate period of their lives. Dr. Kalogera is honored and humbled by the special bond she shares with each woman she treats. When she is not treating patients, Dr. Kalogera enjoys spending time with her significant other and their English bulldog.
