The Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook in Culver City is part of the California Department of Parks and Recreation and is a hidden, scenic gem. The hill stands 512 feet high with a winding, loop trail over its 58 acres of park. At the summit is a stunning 360-degree view of Los Angeles from the Pacific Ocean, surrounding hills and downtown. And, for serious exercise enthusiasts, there's a steep, irregular step, stone staircase that goes straight up the hill.
Must See/Do at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook
The winding trail that zig zags up to the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook is a must. If looking for a workout, hit the stone stairs-282 irregular, steep stairs to be exact. (Note: the difficulty level of the stairs is moderate to hard). Be sure to take in the view of Los Angeles from the Baldwin Hill summit. Interesting signage about native plants and wildlife is located just outside the Visitor's Center.
Visiting the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook
The Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook is open daily from 8 a.m. to Sunset. At the top of the hill is a Visitor's Center that is often open on Fridays and Saturdays (depending on staff availability). Historic exhibits show this land from once heavily drilled for oil to its current renewal as an Urban Park. Dogs, bikes, and alcohol are not allowed on the park grounds.
How to get to the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook
The Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook is located at 6300 Hetzler Road in Culver City off of Jefferson Boulevard. There is street parking along Jefferson Boulevard, as well as a parking lot at the top of the hill that charges a fee. On Saturdays and Sundays there is a Baldwin Hills Parkland Shuttle that links the Metro Expo Line at the La Cienega – Jefferson station to the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook.
Food at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook
There is no food at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. However, there are toilets and drinking fountains at the summit, next to the Visitor's Center.
