History

We started out as a Satellite of Endependence Center of Northern Virginia in 1995, and became a 501(c)3 with our own Board and own Budget in 1997. We outgrew our original space in 2013 and moved to Dorsey Circle where we now have 10 on staff and see an ever-increasing number of people with disabilities and their families.

Specialties

We work with people with disabilities wherever they are on their paths to help them remain or become independent; fight for their civil rights; become self-advocates; determine what is and find out how to acquire needed equipment; and much more.

Community Living

Community Living was founded in 1979 as a nonprofit agency providing residential and support services for people with developmental disabilities in the Frederick County region in Maryland. It provides homes throughout the community for persons with developmental disabilities, ranging from semi-independent to profoundly and multiple disables. It serves more than 100 people, aged 21 onwards in over 25 homes. The agency s homes vary in design from ranchers to bungalows and apartments to split-levels houses. Its primary funding source is the State of Maryland s Developmental Disabilities Administration and it also conducts various fundraising activities throughout the year. Community Living is a member of the Frederick County United Way and is located in Frederick, Md.
