HistoryWe started out as a Satellite of Endependence Center of Northern Virginia in 1995, and became a 501(c)3 with our own Board and own Budget in 1997. We outgrew our original space in 2013 and moved to Dorsey Circle where we now have 10 on staff and see an ever-increasing number of people with disabilities and their families.SpecialtiesWe work with people with disabilities wherever they are on their paths to help them remain or become independent; fight for their civil rights; become self-advocates; determine what is and find out how to acquire needed equipment; and much more.

The ANCOR Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Alexandria, VA, dedicated to building and celebrating leaders who are committed to creating inclusive communities. With a focus on community disability services, the foundation supports and honors both established and emerging leaders in this field, providing them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills and deliver better, more inclusive support. Through initiatives such as the Leadership Academy and the Legacy Leaders Circle, the ANCOR Foundation has made a significant impact in fostering the growth and recognition of exceptional leaders in the pursuit of inclusivity. As part of its mission, the ANCOR Foundation also works to raise awareness and promote inclusive hiring practices through projects like the documentary Hearts of Glass, which has been broadcasted by numerous public television outlets across the country.
