Dr. Troy Hatfield received both bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of New Mexico. He then completed Pediatric Residency training at University of Utah. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the University of Utah. Dr. Hatfield provides patient care in the Emergency Department and Rapid Treatment Unit at Primary Children’s Hospital. His clinical and academic areas of interest include Tribal Medicine, managing new-onset Type I Diabetes, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, and Asthma.

Kristine Smith, MD, Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Utah. She is a board-certified and fellowship-trained Rhinologist. Her clinical practice is focused on sinus and nasal diseases including management of acute and chronic sinusitis, polyps, allergy, septal deviation, growths and tumors of the sinuses and skull base, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks. Dr. Smith works with a large multi-disciplinary team that consists of neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, head and neck pathologists, and specialized otolaryngology (ENT) cancer surgeons to ensure the best treatment outcomes. She also works with the Ophthalmology team to support minimally invasive orbital surgeries. In addition to her clinical practice, she is actively involved in research focusing on better understanding the causes and treatments of sinus disease, including identifying ways to personalize and optimize medicine. She is interested in finding ways to improve patient care, health care quality and value of care. Dr. Smith’s research interests include: • Health Economics • Health Care Value • Inflammatory Pathophysiology of Chronic Sinusitis • Clinical Outcomes • Personalized Medicine • Optimization of Health Care Dr. Smith attended medical school at the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine and then went on to complete her residency at the University of Calgary. Dr. Smith attended the University of Utah for her fellowship training in 2017-2018.

Dr. Jennifer Trauscht-Van Horn is committed to providing excellent care and her active role in various professional capacities highlights her dedication to advancing women’s health. As a distinguished women’s health provider in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr Van Horn specializes in obstetrics, contraception, and infectious diseases, with a particular focus on HIV. She is currently accepting new obstetric patients. Her practice is closed to new gynecology patients. Please call to schedule an appointment or for more information. Dr. Van Horn attended Amherst College, earning her Bachelor of Arts in English and Music. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Utah. Her extensive training includes an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Vermont Department of Medicine. Throughout her career, Dr. Van Horn has held multiple leadership positions. Dr. Van Horn is currently the Medical Director of both Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Mdsen’s Women’s Health Clinic. She has been a member of the University of Utah Healthcare ethics committee, served on the board of the University of Utah Medical Group, and is the obstetrics and gynecology ambulatory Chief Value Officer. She served as Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of Utah for 20 years and is the clinical supervisor for the Salt Lake City Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners.
