As a fellowship-trained specialist in complex family planning, Dr. Jennifer Kaiser provides her patients with compassionate and comprehensive care. Her clinical interests focus on contraceptive care for patients with complex medical conditions, gynecologic care and surgery, care for early pregnancy complications including miscarriage, and in-office procedures. She is currently accepting new patients for gynecology care, surgery consults, and complex contraceptive care by referral. She does not offer prenatal care. Dr. Kaiser earned both her bachelor’s degree in biology and her master’s degree in the history of medicine at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. After completing her medical degree at the University of Chicago, she moved to the University of Utah for her residency and fellowship in complex family planning. Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Kaiser is an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine. She is the Ryan Residency Program Director and the Director of the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic. Dr. Kaiser’s research interests are varied and include novel contraceptives, miscarriage management, surgical education, and the history of women’s health. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, hiking, and camping with her family, knitting, and cooking.

Dr. Smith’s commitment to education started during her residency, which she completed at the University of Utah Affiliated Clinics in 2004. She stayed on as a chief resident for the academic year of 2004-2005. During that year, she was responsible for three times weekly morning report conferences and monthly Morbidity and Mortality conferences with the other chief resident. Dr. Smith then spent 6 years (2005-2011) in a university-based outpatient clinic where she was the only pediatrician. She served as a preceptor for family medicine residents, medical students and physician assistant students. She was also an ongoing community preceptor for pediatric residents at the University of Utah during their continuity clinic experience – precepting a total of four residents in five years. In 2010, Dr. Smith returned to the University of Utah part-time as adjunct faculty in the University Pediatrics clinic where her main responsibility was teaching third-year medical students and interns. In 2011, she left community practice to spend all of her time in the School of Medicine. She is currently as Associate Professor in the Division of General Pediatrics. She has a faculty practice at University Pediatric Clinic and precepts medical students and residents in clinic. Her non-clinical responsibilities involve being a part of the Student Educational Enterprise – a group responsible for changes in the third year medical student curriculum. She is a Core Clinical Content Director for the Pediatrics Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship. She is also the Medical Director of the University Pediatric Clinic and the Interim Medical Director for Sugar House Clinic Pediatrics. Her clinical interests include well child care, adolescent health care, educating families and maximizing mental health care in the primary care setting. She assisted with the transition of the Division of General Pediatrics to the EpicCare electronic medical record in 2011. She continues to work with the EpicCare team to develop templates and complete quality improvement within the EMR. Dr. Smith’s outside hobbies include running, reading, cooking, and spending time with her family. Dr. Smith speaks some medical Spanish and some French.
