Sanjeev M. Raman, MD is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Pulmonary Division, University of Utah School of Medicine. He has been a faculty member in the Pulmonary Division since 2009, when he was recruited to the University of Utah as a Transplant Pulmonologist. His primary clinical focus is in the evaluation and care of patients with advanced lung diseases that require lung transplantation. His clinical and research interests include emphysema/ chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He is the primary research bronchoscopist and co-investigator for the University of Utah Clinical Center for SPIROMICS ( SubPopulations And InteRmediate Outcome Measures In COPD Study) and SOURCE (SPIROMICS Study of Early COPD Progression). These are multi-center studies funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the COPD Foundation that support the prospective collection and analysis of phenotypic, biomarker, genetic, genomic, and clinical data from people with COPD, for the purpose of identifying subpopulations and intermediate outcome measures. Since 2009, the nationwide study has enrolled approximately 3200 patients across the U.S., and continues to be active, with continued research funding. He is also the site PI for an NIH funded trial on acute antibody mediated rejection in lung transplant recipients (Siltuximab-AMR), which is a collaborative effort between investigators at Washington University, St. Louis, and at the University of Utah. Dr. Raman is an Attending Physician at the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics and provides care to patients on the Pulmonary Medicine inpatient service, the Pulmonary Consult service, as well as the Medical Intensive Care Unit. He is also the Medical Director of the Pulmonology inpatient & consult services, and the "pulmonary ward", where he is involved in quality improvement and safety measures. He is also the lead for the pulmonary division in its pandemic preparedness response, as part of a hospital-wide "Code-Bio" team. In addition to his clinical activities, he is actively involved in the teaching and training of University of Utah Fellows, Residents, medical students and students from other disciplines, including from the Physician Assistant Studies program. Dr. Raman was born and raised in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India, and attended medical school at Grant Medical College & Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals. He subsequently received his medical degree (M.B.B.S) from the University of Mumbai. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Michigan State University/ Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies in Kalamazoo, Michigan (2003-06). He then underwent fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and at the lung transplant program at The Methodist and St. Luke's Hospital/ Texas Heart Institute, Houston (2006-09). He is Board Certified in the subspecialties of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He is also certified by the Educational Commission For Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). In his free time, he enjoys reading, photography, and exploring the musical and guitaristic stylings of David Gilmour in two SLC-based Pink Floyd tribute bands.

Cali Johnson, MD, EdD joins the Division of Vascular Surgery as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Cali Johnson grew up in California and went to medical school at University of California in San Francisco. She completed her General Surgery training at the University of Southern California. During this time, she pursued a Surgical Education Research Fellowship through the Association for Surgical Education, and received a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California. She completed her vascular fellowship through an Early Specialization Program at University of Southern California. Dr. Johnson’s clinical interests include a broad range of vascular disease, with specific interests in complex aortic endovascular surgery and limb preservation through a multidisciplinary approach. Her academic pursuits include the integration of surgical education into system improvement and high quality patient care.

M. Jason Penrod, MD is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics. As a General Internist, his clinical interests include hypertension, musculoskeletal problems, and preventative medicine.
