Cali Johnson, MD, EdD joins the Division of Vascular Surgery as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Cali Johnson grew up in California and went to medical school at University of California in San Francisco. She completed her General Surgery training at the University of Southern California. During this time, she pursued a Surgical Education Research Fellowship through the Association for Surgical Education, and received a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California. She completed her vascular fellowship through an Early Specialization Program at University of Southern California. Dr. Johnson’s clinical interests include a broad range of vascular disease, with specific interests in complex aortic endovascular surgery and limb preservation through a multidisciplinary approach. Her academic pursuits include the integration of surgical education into system improvement and high quality patient care.

Benjamin S. Brooke

Benjamin S. Brooke, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Surgery, Biomedical Informatics (adjunct), Population Health Sciences (adjunct), and Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery. He grew up in Salt Lake City, receiving his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Utah before heading east to complete his internship and residency in General Surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. During his surgical residency, Dr. Brooke received his Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He then completed a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Dr. Brooke has a broad clinical practice focused on the open and endovascular treatment of aortic, visceral, carotid, and lower extremity arterial disease. He also provides dialysis vascular access, surgical treatment for thoracic outlet syndrome, and both open and catheter-based treatment of lower extremity venous insufficiency. In addition to clinical responsibilities, Dr. Brooke also leads surgical health services research efforts in the University of Utah’s Department of Surgery, serving as section chief of the Health Services Research Section and director of the Utah Intervention Quality and Implementation Research (U-INQUIRE) group. His research is focused on models to improve care coordination for surgical patients during transitions of care by leveraging health information technology (HIT), implementation science, as well as population health analytics. Dr. Brooke’s work has been funded by grants from PCORI, the National Institutes of Health, the VA, and the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT.
