Department of Public Safety

The Texas Department of Public Safety is a state agency that is responsible for providing law enforcement, regulatory program administration, record management and public education services. The department s administration division operates the training academy and collects and maintains fingerprint files and crime records. Its Criminal Law Enforcement (CLE) Division provides narcotics, criminal intelligence and motor vehicle theft services. The Texas Department of Public Safety also administers the Governor's Division of Emergency Management, which offers severe weather alerts and disaster management services. The department additionally manages the Public Safety Commission and the Texas Highway Patrol Division. The Texas Department of Public Safety provides regulatory gun licensing, psychological and vehicle inspection services.
