Hussein A Zeineddine , MD

P. Roc Chen, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in open cerebrovascular, endovascular, and skull base neurosurgery, with expertise in brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, carotid disease, acoustic neuroma, and skull base tumors. A professor in the Vivian L. Smith Department of Neurosurgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, Chen received his medical degree from Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences in Guangzhou, China, followed by residencies at Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School. He completed fellowship training in neurointerventional radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in cerebrovascular and skull base surgery at Barrow Neurological Institute, and in neuroendovascular surgery and cerebrovascular neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Chen has authored and co-authored many peer-reviewed publications in cerebrovascular disease and other subjects in neurosurgery, particularly flow shearing-related brain aneurysm formation, subarachnoid hemorrhage management, and surgical and endovascular techniques in treating brain aneurysms. He is the principal investigator for a multicenter, randomized clinical trial in the treatment of cerebral vasospasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage due to brain aneurysm rupture. He’s also involved in multiple clinical trials using the latest endovascular technology in treating brain aneurysms, carotid disease, and brain AVMs (One of Chen’s specialties includes the treatment of brain occlusive disease (for example, moyamoya disease, which causes stroke), by performing extracranial to intracranial bypass anastomosis surgery. His expertise includes treating complex acoustic neuromas and other skull base meningiomas.

Karl Schmitt, MD, is an assistant professor of neurosurgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and is board certified by the American Association of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Schmitt is a graduate of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; he completed a five-year neurosurgery residency at the same institution. In 2005, he completed the Yale Comprehensive Spinal Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven.

Sigmund H. Hsu, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained neurologist with extensive experience in evaluating and treating neurological disorders in cancer patients. He specializes in primary brain tumors, brain and spinal cord metastases, cancer neurology, and the treatment of chemotherapy neurotoxicity. He’s also an assistant professor in the Vivian L. Smith Department of Neurosurgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Hsu earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He completed his medical internship at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, Connecticut, where he was awarded medical intern of the year in 1996. After his residency at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, Hsu completed his fellowship training in neuro-oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Before joining UTHealth Houston, Hsu was on the faculty at MD Anderson, where he served as an assistant professor of neuro-oncology and the neurology residency program director. He is a Brain Tumor Network charter member and has volunteered for several years for Run for the Rose, serving as the medical director from 2005 to 2007. Hsu has presented research at several national conferences, and his work has been published in numerous journals and textbooks. His most recent research is focused on novel therapies for recurrent primary CNS lymphoma, recurrent glioblastoma multiforme, and intralumbar injections for cancer therapy. He has several patents granted and pending for his treatments.
