Dr. James Howell is a board-certified family medicine physician with more than 15 years of medical experience who practices at FamilyCare Specialists in Knoxville, TN. Dr. Howell loves his family and is passionate about spending time with his wife and three sons. He is a physical fitness enthusiast and routinely exercises daily, hikes, and camps. Dr. Howell studies Judo and Taekwondo and is very active with the Boy Scouts of America. A huge Star Wars fan, Dr. Howell goes with his wife to conventions each year and has a room in his house full of Star Wars memorabilia.

Andrew H. Schmudde, PA-C is a certified physician assistant with FamilyCare Specialists in Knoxville, TN. Andrew says he enjoys the variety of conditions that can be treated in family medicine but especially enjoys acute care and occupational health. When he’s not caring for patients, Andrew enjoys being outdoors, participating in his church’s activities, music, and spending time with his family, friends, and dogs.

Carla Spurgeon, FNP-BC is a certified family nurse practitioner with FamilyCare Specialists in Knoxville, TN. Carla says she likes practicing family medicine because she’s able to focus on prevention and optimizing wellness. When she’s not caring for patients, Carla enjoys reading and outdoor activities.
