Dr. Smarika Shrestha is a respected thoracic surgeon at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center. She combines her extensive training and compassionate care to help her patients. Dr. Shrestha received her medical degree from Dalhousie University, followed by a General Surgery Residency at West Virginia University. She further specialized with a Thoracic Surgery Residency at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Dr. Shrestha is board-certified in both general and thoracic surgery. Her commitment to education extends beyond her practice; she is an ATLS Instructor, sharing her knowledge with the next generation of surgeons. MUSC Health - Urology offers a wide range of diagnostic services and treatment for conditions affecting the urinary tract and system, including the bladder and kidneys, as well as the male reproductive organs. Our urologists perform male and female "sling" operations for urinary incontinence, laparoscopic procedures such as prostatectomies, and nephrectomies, adult and pediatric circumcisions, and can provide implants which are for urinary control.

Dr. Karthik Tanneru is a urologist with dual fellowship training in urological oncology and reconstructive urology. His clinical interests include robotic surgery, urological cancers, reconstructive urology, incontinence, supine PCNL for treatment of renal stones.After graduating from medical school in India in 2009, Dr. Tanneru completed a residency in general surgery followed by a residency in urology. He received many highly competitive travelling fellowships during his residency including the prestigious USI traveling fellowship. After his residency, he practiced as an attending urologist at a university hospital and used many innovative techniques to improve patient care. He then moved to the United States in 2019 to complete his advanced training in reconstructive urology at the University of Florida followed by urological oncology fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston. Dr. Tanneru has written for multiple peer-reviewed publications and delivered professional presentations at various national and international conferences. He serves as peer reviewer for multiple international urology journals and is consulting editor for the Brazilian Journal of Urology. He also serves as a visiting faculty for Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences.
