Marion County Memorial, raised to commemorate the sacrifices of our county's sons and daughters in World War II, opened in 1952 and was later renovated. In 1997, the two facilities were combined to form what is now Marion County Medical Center. A brand new facility was built on Highway 76, between Marion and Mullins, providing a convenient location for area residents while maintaining room for necessary expansion. The new facility was comprised of 216, 500 square feet and 124 acute-care beds. Its innovative "Medical Mall", a first for the area, offered individuals and families a full array of services in a friendly and convenient atmosphere. A Helipad, adjacent to the Hospital, was another area first, and was a major breakthrough in providing residents of the Pee Dee the best medical care available.
