The Ohio Public Employees Retirement System provides retirement, disability and survivor benefit programs for public employees throughout Ohio who are not covered by another state or local retirement system. Ohio PERS serves more than 670,000 members and more than 143,000 retirees and surviving beneficiaries who receive monthly benefits. The system services more than 3,700 public employers and has assets of more than $64 billion. All employees who are paid in whole or in part by the state of Ohio, a county, municipality, or any other political subdivision of state or local government in Ohio must become members of OPERS unless they are covered by another state retirement system in Ohio or by the Cincinnati Retirement System. Ohio PERS was established in 1935 and has headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.
