My dad was a pediatrician, so I grew up around medicine. I always loved seeing him interact with his patients in the community and hearing about the impact he had on their lives. I wanted to find a way to serve my community in a similar way. \n During medical school, I discovered that obstetrics and gynecology was the perfect mixture of procedures and getting to see patients in the office. It's a field that allows me to offer a continuity of care and positively impact my patients' lives. \n My goal as a physician is to help each patient feel heard and cared for. Even though a visit to a doctor's office may not always be the most enjoyable part of someone's day, I hope that a visit with me will be both beneficial and pleasant. \n I moved to Wilmington in June 2022. My family is originally from Florida, but my parents now live in Idaho, and I love skiing and hiking that terrain when I visit them. \n In my free time, I love playing beach volleyball (I was meant to live on the coast!), spending time with my golden retriever, paddleboarding and watching college football.

My grandmother was a nurse for over 40 years, and I thought she was the coolest person on Earth. I wanted to go into healthcare to be like her. I chose obstetrics and gynecology because it incorporates the best parts of medicine. I get to see patients throughout their lifetime and develop relationships, and I get to practice in multiple settings - office, operating room, and labor and delivery. \n I work hard to stay current on new medications and techniques in my field. I like to make the patient the team leader for their healthcare team and empower them to make the best decisions while taking both science and their personal perspectives into consideration. I strive to make all patients feel comfortable so they are able to develop a relationship with me that fosters trust and respect. I am a strong supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and believe in health equality. \n I was the first surgeon in our area and with the Novant Health system to perform a vNOTES hysterectomy that allows for a complex surgery to be completed without any incisions on the abdomen. \n I have an interest in hormones, menopause, vulvar dermatoses, sexual medicine and infertility. \n I was born and raised in eastern North Carolina, and most of my life was spent in Kenansville, a small town in Duplin County. I graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, where I played on the tennis team, and was the first college graduate in my family. \n I have always been a diehard North Carolina State fan. (Go, Pack!) I married my high school sweetheart who attended NCSU. I attended East Carolina University for medical school and had my first two children during this time. I did my residency in Charlotte, lived there for four years and had my third child during my last year of training. She was born prematurely after a very high-risk pregnancy, which has helped me to see close-up the challenges that some of my patients encounter. \n I believe I'm a better doctor because of that experience and am thankful that my daughter is thriving and healthy today. \n I enjoy being on the water, reading supernatural romances, running in races with my kids (when my hip is behaving) and traveling and experiencing new cultures and foods. I have traveled to Guatemala several times throughout my career and try to schedule regular medical mission trips.
