Suffolk County Health Department
Suffolk County Department of Health Division of Preventative Medicine exists to educate local residents and healthcare providers. It was created in January 2008. The department's aim is to help residents make well-informed decisions about lifestyle choices such as diet and exercise, smoking and sexual health to improve overall health and well-being. Preventative Medicine division targets individuals who may be at high risk for disease such as asthma, diabetes, obesity and stroke. The program's goal is to encourage action and healthy behavior to reduce risk and associated health care costs.
It contains two subdivisions: the Office of Health Education and Tobacco Cessation and the Bureau of Public Nursing.
