Andrew B. Lassman, MD, FAAN, FASCO, is a Professor of Neurology and Associate Dean of Clinical Research Compliance at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Lassman also serves as Chief of the Division of Neuro-Oncology and Vice Chair for Clinical Research in the Department of Neurology, and as Associate Director for Clinical Trials at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Lassman focuses both his research and clinical efforts on improving the understanding and treatment of brain tumors.Dr. Lassman has particular expertise in translational clinical trials for brain tumors, with molecular correlative analyses to understand the reasons for treatment success or failure, and to refine treatment paradigms. Dr. Lassman has led retrospective studies, single institution prospective clinical trials, and multicenter prospective trials conducted nationally through the National Cancer Institute sponsored National Clinical Trials Network. His contributions to the field of Neuro-Oncology have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Preuss Award in Neuro-Oncology from the American Academy of Neurology, the Boyer Clinical Research Award from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the Gary Lichtenstein Humanitarian Award from Voices Against Brain Cancer.Dr. Lassman earned his BS and MS degrees in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, as part of a combined four-year program at Yale University. He attained his MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed Neurology residency at the Neurological Institute of New York, at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Lassman completed his fellowship in Neuro-Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where he joined the faculty and served as fellowship director, until his return to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Dr. Winawer's clinical and research interests are in the genetics of epilepsy and Long COVID. Her research focuses on identifying genetic contributions to human health and disease with a focus on epilepsy, incorporating expertise in genetic epidemiology, human translational neuroscience, animal models, and imaging. Her recent work has led to the identification of the emerging role of somatic brain localized mutations in individuals with intractable focal epilepsy. Clinically, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Winawer has become CUIMC’s expert in the neurological care of individuals with lasting sequelae of COVID-19, and in collaboration with the department of Infectious Disease, she has helped to form a multidisciplinary foundation-funded center for care and research of infection associated chronic conditions (IACCS) including Long COVID.

Dr. Connolly serves as the Byron Stookey Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University and the Surgeon-in-Chief of the New York Neurological Institute and the New York Presbyterian Hospital - Columbia Irving Medical Center. He is also the Surgical Director of the Neuro-Intensive Care Unit, caring for patients suffering from the acute effects of both hemorrhagic as well as ischemic stroke. Working as part of an extremely experienced and world-renowned team of critical care and stroke neurologists, as well as interventional radiologists, endovascular neurosurgeons, neuroanesthesiologists, and specialized nurse practitioners, he provides highly personalized, state of the art care for patients with brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, spontaneous hemorrhages, as well as for those patients with carotid stenosis, moyamoya disease, and cerebral ischemia due to atherosclerosis and other vasculopathies. In addition, he serves as the Director of the Cerebrovascular Research laboratory which continues to be at the forefront of biomedical science, bringing the latest discoveries to the operating room and the patient bedside to not only treat but also prevent stroke. Dr. Connolly's special interests include Brain Aneurysms, Arteriovenous Malformations, Carotid Stenosis, EC-IC Bypass for Atheroocclusive disease and moyamoya, and Surgical management of acute cerebrovascular emergencies.
