Megha Kothari, MD

Dr. Jason Edwards serves as the Medical Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation and the Director of Brain Injury Rehabilitation at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Edwards is double-board certified specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Medicine. Dr. Edwards provides comprehensive neurologic rehabilitation and spasticity management for patients with traumatic brain injury, stroke, brain tumors, and other neurological conditions. He takes an individualized approach to rehabilitation, assessing each person's unique injury to then guide treatment choices to maximize function and quality of life. Dr. Edwards completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston/TIRR, where he served as Chief Resident. He completed his Brain Injury Medicine & Rehabilitation fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine/Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, where he was awarded the Shirley Ryan Research Accelerator Program Quality Grant for his work on vestibular dysfunction after traumatic brain injury. While at Northwestern, he also completed specialty training in Medical Education through the Feinberg School of Medicine. A frequent presenter at conferences on neurologic rehabilitation, Dr. Edwards has contributed to numerous scientific journals on brain injury. While at the Texas Medical Center, he was the host and moderator of PMReport, the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston's podcast exploring the latest trends and advances in the world of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Edwards has received numerous awards for his work in brain injury rehabilitation:He has been recognized as a SuperDoctors New York Rising Star in 2021, 2022, and 2023. This honor represents the top New York doctors in more than 30 specialties that have been fully licensed for 10 years or less.He was also recognized as a Castle Connelly Rising Star (2023).NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital named Dr. Edwards as Physician of the Year for 2023.The Brain Injury Association of New York State recognized Dr. Edwards as their State-wide Medical Honoree for the 2023 March on for Brain Injury, recognizing his advocacy for persons with brain injury in New York State.

Dr. Mateo Mejia is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medicine and an Assistant Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.Dr. Mejia received his medical degree (M.D.) from the Universidad CES in his hometown of Medellin, Colombia, after which he completed an internal medicine residency at the Jacobi Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY, where he also served as a Chief Resident. He completed his Hematology and Oncology fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and joined the Hematology and Medical Oncology Division after completing his fellowship training in 2023. During fellowship, Dr. Mejia developed his clinical experience under the mentorship of Dr. Ruben Niesvizky, while pursuing his laboratory research at Dr. Mark Bustoros’ Laboratory, being able to complete both clinical and translational research in the plasma cell malignancy field.Dr. Mejia’s research has focused on the genomic drivers of aggressive forms of myeloma, for which he received the 2022 Conquer Cancer – American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Young Investigator Award, a prestigious honor only given to 100 of people each year. Additionally, Dr. Mejia was the recipient ofthe 2022 Charles, Lillian and Betty Neuwirth Foundation Fellowship in Oncology award for his project “Genomic Landscape of Multiple Myeloma with Extramedullary Disease”. Dr. Mejia’s research also investigates the connectionof race, ethnicity and myeloma, how myeloma escapes the surveillance of the immune system, as well as how genetic information can be used to develop novel approaches to treat myeloma.

Daniel R. O'Connor, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon who has served Brooklyn and Queens community for 30 years. Dr. O'Connor specializes in upper and lower extremity sports and ligament injuries, joint replacement and revision surgery, arthritis and fractures. He has a comprehensive approach to orthopedic problems and utilizes surgical and non-surgical modalities.Born and raised in Brooklyn, Dr. O'Connor developed a passion for problem solving and fixing things as a student at Brooklyn Technical High School. He combined that passion with an interest for science and chemistry in college, which led him to his decision to become a physician and surgeon. After graduating from the Unversidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez Medical School, Dr. O'Connor served a general surgery residency at New York Hospital and Medical Center of Queens, followed by a one year research fellowship at Manhattan Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Hospital. He completed his four-year orthopedic surgery residency at Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens. His orthopedic training was completed by serving as the Senior Annie C. Kane Fellowship in Hip and Knee Reconstruction at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. O'Connor worked as a teaching attending physician at Catholic Medical Center for 15 years, during which time he had the opportunity to share his orthopedic skills and knowledge with the generation of orthopedic surgeons. Dr. O'Connor is board certified in orthopedic surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedics Surgeons, New York State Orthopedic Society, Brooklyn Orthopedic Society , and the Medical Society of the State of New York. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
