Founded in 1960, the Puerto Rican Family Institute is a nonprofit, multiprogram, family-orientated health and human service agency. The institute offers a range of social and health care services, including mental health treatment, crisis intervention, placement prevention, residential care and education. Its programs operate in the United States and Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican Family Institute provides a variety of foster care and case and blended care management programs, including the Bushwick Child Placement Prevention Program and Brooklyn Mental Health Clinic in New York. In addition, the institute offers school-based and Head Start programs. It operates over 20 programs located throughout New York, New Jersey and Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican Family Institute is supported by the Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, Avon Foundation, Wyckoff Medical Center and Hispanic Federation.

Established in 1094, A Very Special Place is a nonprofit organization that provides services to people with developmental disabilities. Located in Staten Island, N.Y., it provides residential homes for patients and offers full-time supervision services. The organization also offers community outing services. Its recreational activities include fine arts, sports, crafts, music and exercise. A Very Special Place also conducts an after-school program that features assistance in homework and games. It also offers residential habilitation services, including in-home care and assistance. In addition, the organization provides financial supports to needful families. It offers transportation services for recreational and educational tours.
