Ashesh D. Mehta, MD, PhD, is director of neurosurgery at Glen Cove Hospital and director of epilepsy surgery at North Shore University Hospital. He is also the director of the Laboratory of Human Brain Mapping at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and has 15 years of experience as a practicing neurosurgeon.Dr. Mehta attended New York University Medical Center for his fellowship in epilepsy surgery and New York Presbyterian Hospital for his residency in neurosurgery. He came to Northwell Health in 2006 with a focus on epilepsy surgery, functional brain mapping, brain and spine tumors and trauma, and degenerative spine disease. He also specializes in radiosurgery, as well as functional neurosurgery and neuromodulation.Along with his peers at the Feinstein Institutes, Dr. Mehta is at the forefront of new innovations in minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques. He has authored numerous articles for medical journals and book chapters in neurosurgery, neurophysiology and epilepsy, and has been featured on national television as an expert in a variety of neuroscience topics. He has also presented his research and clinical findings at international meetings, and has received National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding to perform brain research at Northwell Health toward the development of innovative therapies for the treatment of neurological disease. He has repeatedly been recognized as one of Castle Connolly's "Top Doctors".Dr. Mehta's research is focused on advancing minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques to improve precision and reduce recovery time, which he finds to be the most rewarding aspect of his career, because it helps people get back to their normal lives as quickly, efficiently and painlessly as possible. His work in clinical trials includes Stereotactic Laser Ablation for Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (SLATE), which was designed to further expand the use of Medtronic's Visualase MRI-Guided Laser Ablation System. As an assistant professor of neurosurgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, Dr. Mehta instructs future neurosurgeons in these new techniques.

Daniel Michael Sciubba, MD, MBA

Daniel Sciubba, MD, is a national leader in neurosurgery and a distinguished author of more than 600 peer-reviewed clinical articles. He is the chair of neurosurgery at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, co-director of the Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Northwell Health and the chair of neurosurgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Dr. Sciubba has received wide recognition for his clinical expertise. He's ranked by Expertscape as one of the top five spine surgeons and spinal oncology clinicians in the world and has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for many years. In addition to his medical degree, he holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and two complex spine fellowships at Johns Hopkins University and Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.Today, his clinical focus includes neurosurgery and spine surgery, but extends to rare cancers and tumors of the spine as well. Dr. Sciubba is one of the few surgeons in the world who perform life-saving "en bloc" surgeries, which patients come from all over the country to receive. "When a patient can get married, see their child graduate, or have another birthday-that's important to me."A widely recognized researcher, Dr. Sciubba literally "wrote the book" on spine tumor surgery-it's called Spinal Tumor Surgery: A Case-Based Approach, and it's the cornerstone of technical expertise in today's current field. He also wrote Chordoma of the Spine: A Comprehensive Review, which details a rare cancer he's uniquely qualified to treat. When it comes to his approach to care, Dr. Sciubba's expertise is strengthened by his team. He works alongside medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and more, honing a multidisciplinary approach to care that treats each patient like the individual they are. Dr. Sciubba even appoints a social worker to each of his patients, helping them tackle the emotional trial that accompanies their physical conditions. Dr. Sciubba was drawn to neurosurgery because conditions in this field can be highly debilitating. "Protecting someone's ability to walk, to think, to speak, is protecting what makes them human," he says. "There's nothing more fulfilling or rewarding than that."

He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his residency in neurological surgery at New York-Presbyterian in Manhattan. He continued on to a fellowship at Weill Cornell concentrating in endovascular neurosurgery/interventional neuroradiology.Dr. Link has a passion for research and innovation, striving to advance the field of neurosurgery in order to provide better care for patients. He is currently the lead investigator on two clinical trials involving a minimally invasive alternative and adjunct to surgery for chronic subdural hematomas, a procedure which he helped develop and has the potential to significantly improve patient outcomes. He also started a novel clinical trial investigating the use of intra-arterial neuroprotective substances in stroke intervention. He prides himself on practicing medicine that is led by interpersonal relationship and patient-centered care.Dr. Link is a member of various professional neurosurgical organizations, including the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), and Society of Neuro-interventional Surgeons (SNIS). He has an extensive list of peer reviewed publications to his credit, including works for Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, Operative Neurosurgery, World Neurosurgery, Interventional Neuroradiology, Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, and Cell Medicine.
