The Space Murals Museum and Gift Shop, located in Las Cruces, NM, is a unique people's museum featuring a 1,200,000-gallon water tank adorned with murals that chronicle the U.S. Space program's history up to the tragic Space Shuttle Challenger incident. In addition to the mural, visitors can explore a 1/8 scale replica of the Challenger Shuttle, a V-2 rocket, and various artifacts related to space exploration.
The museum's 6,000 square-foot space houses a variety of donated artifacts from the space program, including photographs and newspaper articles, along with a mock-up of the Mercury capsule and a video presentation about astronauts. Entry is free, and donations are welcomed to support this educational and commemorative space.
