Space Murals Museum and Gift Shop serves as a unique destination in Las Cruces, NM, known as "The People's Museum." This establishment features a fascinating 1,200,000 gallon water tank adorned with murals chronicling the history of the U.S. Space program up to the tragic event of the Space Shuttle Challenger. Visitors can explore a 1/8 scale replica of the Challenger Shuttle, a V-2 rocket, and various other space artifacts in close proximity to the tank.
Adjacent to the tank, a 6,000 sq foot museum showcases a collection of donated space program artifacts, along with photographs, newspaper clippings, and magazine articles. A highlight of the museum is a mock-up of the Mercury capsule and a video presentation highlighting the experiences of astronauts. Moreover, guests can browse through a small gift shop offering space-themed memorabilia. While entry is free of charge, the museum gratefully accepts donations to support its offerings.
