Visitors can discover these semi-precious gems through careful rock breaking or by searching the surface and drainages for the dark-colored stones.

In addition to rockhounding, Garnet Hill offers scenic views of the nearby massive open-pit copper mines and features four picnic sites with grills, accessible restrooms, and informal camping areas. While RVs and large trailers are not recommended, the site provides a unique outdoor experience at an elevation of 7,000 feet.
