Mount Holyoke College

Mount Holyoke College is one of the nation's finest liberal arts institutions. The college, located in South Hadley, in the Connecticut River valley in western Massachusetts, is a highly selective, nondenominational, residential, liberal arts college for women. Founded in 1837 by chemist and revolutionary educator Mary Lyon, it was the first of the Seven Sisters the female equivalent of the predominantly male Ivy League. Mount Holyoke offers 49 departmental and interdepartmental majors, including an option for students to design their own major. Majors of current students: Humanities 32 percent, Social sciences 42 percent and Natural and applied sciences 26 percent. The college has students from all 50 states and more than 80 countries. Approximately one in every three Mount Holyoke students is an international citizen or African American, Asian American, Latina, Native American, or multiracial.
