Founded in 1958 and located in Amherst, Mass., Hampshire College is a private liberal arts college in western Massachusetts. The college operates various schools, including schools of humanities; arts and cultural studies; interdisciplinary arts and natural, social and cognitive science. It provides a wide range of academic programs, such as African-American studies, agriculture, animal science, archeology and anthropology, architecture and environmental design, art history, biology, chemistry, cognitive science, communications and media studies, computer science, digital media, environmental studies, geology, globalization studies and international relations, and journalism. Hampshire College is approved by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The college also provides various student services, including residential facilities; outdoors and recreational athletics programs; health and food services and spiritual programs.
