The Anson Madison Sanitary District (AMSD) is responsible for treating wastewater generated by the towns of Anson, North Anson, and Madison, as well as accepting trucked-in waste. Established in 1974 to comply with the Clean Water Act, AMSD operates a treatment facility designed to process 5.0 million gallons per day, utilizing a range of treatment processes to ensure the safe discharge of treated effluent into the Kennebec River.

In addition to managing approximately 15 miles of sanitary sewer pipes and a stormwater collection system, AMSD is actively planning improvements to enhance its stormwater drainage system to mitigate flooding issues on Main Street in Madison. The district is committed to public engagement, encouraging community involvement through monthly Trustee meetings and opportunities for residents to serve on the Board.
