About Dr. George Kathleen H. “Katie” George, MD, decided to pursue medicine while she was in college. “I grew up loving science and always considered medicine as a possible career, but several of my shadowing and volunteer experiences in high school and college helped me solidify the decision,” she says. As the second physician in her family, Dr. George follows in the tradition started by her father. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo, MI, and her Doctor of Medicine degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. Her residency was completed at Memorial Family Medicine Residency, South Bend, IN. Dr. George sees a need for more primary care providers in the healthcare care system, so she chose family medicine as her specialty. “I work with people to help them manage their health. I chose family medicine because it allows me to provide care to people of all ages with a variety of health conditions,” she says. Feeling that she helps people most when she meets them where they are in life, Dr. George says, “I believe my role is to help guide people to make the best health decisions for themselves.” As for how she hopes patients view her care Dr. George says, “I hope they know that if we do not find the right solution or answer on our first attempt, I am committed to working with them to find the next step forward.” In her own words… Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life?
