Dick Young Forest Preserve is such a peaceful retreat. The only negative are the large amount of ticks.

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County has been dedicated to preserving and restoring the natural areas of Kane County since 1925, enhancing wildlife habitats and improving the quality of life for local residents. With over 23,000 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and prairies, the district invites visitors to explore its diverse offerings, including hiking, camping, fishing, and educational programs.
In celebration of its 100th anniversary in 2025, the district is launching initiatives such as the Centennial Grove project at Johnsons Mound Forest Preserve, where community members can participate in tree sponsorship and planting events. A small Preserve with a crushed limestone trail that leads to a lake overlook platform. There is a grass trail that loops around the lake but it can be muddy and uncut.
