Hedonisia Hawaii Eco-Community

History

The property where Hedonisia is located was once a junkyard. With sweat and hard work we slowly removed 18 scrapped vehicles and truckloads of trash to become the first eco-hostel in Puna, Hawaii! Now we have further evolved into a eco-feminist community for green tourists, backpackers, social entrepreneurs and idealistic travelers! Our Community Management Internship and Fair-Trade Volunteer Program have become quite popular for longer staying visitors from around the world. It allows you to enjoy a working and educational vacation in Hawaii that is much much more affordable than staying as a 'normal' tourist! We invite you to visit our website to view the environmental, feminist and socially progressive web projects we are working on. Even if you come only for a few nights as a guest we hope that you will learn and enjoy the beautiful eco-community that Hedonisia has evolved into!

Specialties

On the environmental front, Hedonisia has been an experiment in affordable community based 'eco-tourism' in Hawai'i. Backpackers and travelers can enjoy jungle style vacation lodgings that is much more a part of the natural environment than simply staying in a concrete hotel with a pool The Kilauea volcanic eruption in May 2018 destroyed our eco-community. We now manage our ecofeminist web projects from Portland OR while we fundraise for our return to rebuild on our land in Hawaii. We invite you to support our effort. Aloha!
