Doug Farquhar, MD, MPH, is a board certified surgeon in otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. He has expertise in ear, nose, and throat diseases and conditions, with particular specialty in nose and sinus conditions, as well as and skull base tumors and cancers. Dr. Farquhar earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania, while simultaneously obtaining a masters in public health. He completed his surgical internship and residency at the University of North Carolina, while also completing an NIH-funded research fellowship investigating head and neck cancers and sinus disease. During his residency, Dr. Farquhar honed particular expertise in sinus surgery and skull base surgery in an enfolded fellowship at the Savannah Sinus Institute. Dr. Farquhar also received advanced fellowship training in sinus surgery and skull base surgery Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. While at Thomas Jefferson, he helped to lead research into treatments for COVID-related smell loss. Dr. Farquhar has published over 50 peer-reviewed medical journal articles, as well as numerous other abstracts, textbook chapters, and has presented at numerous national conferences. Dr. Farquhar is a member of the North American Skull Base Society, the American Rhinologic Society, American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and the American Medical Association. In his spare time, Dr. Farquhar enjoys spending time with his wife and newborn son, hiking, and gardening. Dr. Farquhar welcomes new patients and accepts most insurance plans. Dr. Kerolus completed his neurosurgical training at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago where he focused on the treatment of cranial pathologies such as trigeminal neuralgia, brain and spinal cord tumors and minimally invasive spine surgery. He then completed the prestigious Adult and Pediatric Comprehensive Orthopedic Spine Fellowship at Columbia University/New York-Presbyterian with a focus on spinal deformity surgery. Having been trained in both neurosurgery and orthopedic spine surgery, Dr. Kerolus is able to individualize surgical treatment options for his patients. Dr. Kerolus' clinical focus includes the surgical treatment of patients with lumbar stenosis and spondylolisthesis, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), cervical and thoracolumbar spinal deformities including adult idiopathic scoliosis, kyphosis, flat-back syndrome, chin-on-chest deformity, and patients who have a spinal deformity following prior spinal surgery. He also treats patients with cervical spine disease including cervical stenosis, disc herniation's, ossified posterior longitudinal ligament and myelopathy. Dr. Kerolus has additional expertise in cervical motion preservation surgery including cervical disc arthroplasty. Dr. Kerolus is committed to research and improving patient care. His research interests include minimally invasive spine techniques, robotic spine surgery and optimizing the postoperative recovery for spine patients in order to provide the best outcomes. He has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles in national and international journals including the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine and Neurosurgery. He regularly presents at national conferences and has been authored in numerous textbooks. He is a member of many neurosurgical organizations including the American Association of Neurologic Surgeons, Congress of Neurologic Surgeons, and the Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves. Dr. Kerolus' personal interests include swimming, tennis, hiking and traveling. He enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter.
