Ben Burton Park
Ben Burton Park is a 35-acre wildlife preserve nestled in Athens, GA, featuring a stunning hardwood forest and a 1.2-mile mineral surface loop trail for nature enthusiasts to explore. With fourteen picnic tables and two grills, visitors can enjoy a delightful outdoor dining experience amidst the park's serene surroundings.
Formerly a hydroelectric generating station, Ben Burton Park holds historical significance and was generously donated to the county by Georgia Power. In honor of Ben W. Burton, Vice President of Georgia Power, the park was dedicated in October 1971. Additionally, a portion of the park is dedicated to a streambank stabilization project, aimed at enhancing streambank health and reducing erosion.
