A Spanish watchtower, built in the late 1500's was the predecessor of the present St. Augustine Lighthouse. St. Augustine is the site of the oldest aid to navigation in North America. The original watchtower became Florida's first lighthouse in 1824.

Cool place to check out if you're in the area. The lighthouse was the main attraction of course and it has signs to let you know how far up and how much further you have left as you climbed it....

We had a wonderful visit! The view from the top of the lighthouse is spectacular! We also walked through some of the small nature trails and enjoyed that!

Highly recommend going to the St Augustine Lighthouse and climbing the 216 Stairs! There is a Gift shop and for a $1 you can buy a certificate to verify and ccelebrate you climbed up there!
