Established in 1931, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency that employs a staff of more than 3,500 sworn officers, civilians and community volunteers. - It is part of a countywide communication center that dispatches emergency calls to local police, fire, medical ambulances and first responders. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office also maintains a citizens police academy that provides training programs related to law, firearms instruction, defensive tactics, first aid, as well as an understanding on how the sheriff s office patrols and investigates crimes. In addition, the office has a community services unit that conducts community crime and safety prevention presentations and programs, assesses security deficiencies through surveys, organizes neighborhood watch groups and maintains liaisons. With a location in Delray Beach, Fla., the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office supports the Crime Stoppers program, which is affiliated with the National Crime Stoppers Organization and provides opportunities for citizens - to anonymously report suspicious or illegal activity to authorities.
