Nathan P Dean, MD

Dr. Fernandez Nievas specializes in pediatric critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins All Children’s. He joined the hospital staff in 2020.He previously served as an attending physician in pediatric critical care and medical director of pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York, and medical director of pediatric respiratory therapy at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.Dr. Fernandez Nievas earned his medical degree from Facultad de Medicina, Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires in Argentina. He completed a pediatric residency at Hospital Nacional Alejandro Posadas in Buenos Aires, and later a pediatric residency at Maimonides Infants & Children’s Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, where he also served as chief resident.He completed a pediatric critical care fellowship at Hospital Italiano in Buenos Aires, a pediatric pulmonary medicine fellowship at Children’s Hospital Health Science Center/University of Winnipeg in Canada, and a pediatric critical care fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut.He holds a Master of Public Administration from Maxwell School at Syracuse University. He is a Certified Physician Executive (CPE), a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and completed a chief quality officer development program at the Institute for Health Improvement.His clinical and research interests include severe asthma, ventilator support, pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome (PARDS), sepsis, ECMO and quality improvement.

Dr. McCarthy specializes in neonatology with the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Maternal, Fetal & Neonatal Institute. She joined the hospital staff in 1977 and founded its Institutional Review Board and ethics committee. She served as chief of staff for three years.Dr. McCarthy earned her medical degree at University of Miami School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency and her neonatology fellowship at University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital. She also has a Master of Medical Science degree in physiology from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. in pharmacology from West Virginia University. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pharmacology at the University of Miami.

Dr. Du Mont specializes in pediatric regional anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. He joined the hospital staff in 2024. He earned his medical degree at University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. He completed a general surgery internship at the University of Arizona-Tucson. He then completed an anesthesiology residency and served as chief resident at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed a pediatric anesthesia fellowship, serving as chief fellow, followed by a pediatric regional anesthesia fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. His clinical interests include reduction of perioperative anxiety and improvement of post operative recovery through the use of regional anesthesia techniques.
