Bryon A. Tompkins, M.D., is a double board-certified General and Cardiothoracic surgeon at Baptist Health Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute. Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Tompkins completed a three-year cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital where he served as administrative chief. He earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University where he graduated in the top 10% of his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Doctor Tompkins completed his surgical residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami, where he also served as administrative chief resident. In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Tompkins spent 2 years at the University of Miami’s Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute as a research associate. He has published his research in multiple medical journals including the Journal of Cardiac Surgery, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Journal of the American Heart Association, the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and others. Similarly, he has served as a reviewer for a variety of medical journals and has written a variety of book chapters. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. Doctor Tompkins dedicates his time to continually looking for ways to improve outcomes for his patients by using minimally invasive techniques, or open surgical approaches according to each patient’s needs.

Dr. Senkowski is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and serves as chair of the organization’s General Surgery Coding and Reimbursement Committee and adviser to the American Medical Association’s Relative Value Update Committee. He is also a member of several other professional organizations. Dr. Senkowski’s research focuses on healthcare policy and reimbursement. He is an editorial reviewer for the Journal of the American College of Surgeons and has authored numerous articles on surgical quality in patient care as well as a textbook on reimbursement for surgeons. Taking care of patients is a profound privilege, Dr. Senkowski says. He enjoys the human interaction with patients and their loved ones and is honored to utilize his skills to help them through the ups and downs of their healthcare journey. Since Dr. Senkowski grew up in Detroit, he still enjoys winter sports such as ice hockey and skiing, but now that he has moved south, he often spends time boating and fishing.
