The town of Hamden s Public Works Department is one of the various government segments that works for the cleanliness and upkeep of the town. It takes care of the buildings, grounds, roads and public properties of Hamden, Conn. Connecticut Water Service was created in 1956 through the merger of the Guilford-Chester and Naugatuck water companies. Immediately after its incorporation, the company acquired the water utility holdings of the Connecticut Light & Power Company. By the end of 1956, Connecticut Water Service served approximately 75,000 people in more than 15 Connecticut towns through 20,500 service connections. More than 50 years later, through growth in its service areas and numerous acquisitions of other water utilities, it now serves nearly 241,000 people in nearly 40 Connecticut towns through 68,000 service connections. The company provides its water services through a number of subsidiaries, which include Connecticut Water Company, New England Water Utility Services, Unionville Water Company, Crystal Water Company of Danielson, Connecticut Water Emergency Services and Barnstable Water Company.
