The Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority (GNHWPCA) was established in July 2005 to serve as a Regional Sewer Authority for New Haven, Hamden, East Haven, and Woodbridge. Covering over 500 miles of sewer mains and operating 30 pump stations, GNHWPCA directs sewage flow to the East Shore Water Pollution Abatement Facility.

Located along the New Haven Harbor, this facility processes around 40 million gallons of raw sewage daily, making it the second-largest wastewater treatment plant in Connecticut. Additionally, GNHWPCA manages sewer treatment for a segment of North Branford customers through a special agreement with the town.

The authority undertakes various projects to enhance environmental protection, such as the ongoing Laboratory Conversion Project at East Shore WPAF and the East Street Pump Station Upgrade for CSO Reduction. GNHWPCA's commitment to environmental welfare is reflected in its efforts to mitigate the impact of its operations on the region's economic and social landscape.
