The Department of Public Health focuses on the promotion, preservation and protection of public health. It provides public and environmental health and emergency preparedness and response services for infants, children and families. The department offers testing, treatment and referral services for HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. The Department of Public Health offers a consumer food program that includes permitting and inspecting retail food businesses, including restaurants, school cafeterias, bakeries, bars, mobile food vans and special event food booths. It also provides a rabies and animal control program that includes dog licensing and the investigation of multiple litter, animal bite reports and animal waste complaints. The department is governed by the County of Fresno in California.
