The Scottsdale Police Department serves the community by protecting residents lives and property, preserving peace and order, enforcing laws and ordinances, and preventing and detecting crime. It undertakes various criminal cases and works with other state, local and federal agencies to ensure the safety of exchange of information between law enforcement officers and the public. The Scottsdale Police Department operates the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), which deals with high-risk and dangerous situations, including barricaded persons, high-risk warrant arrests, explosive devices and heavily armed criminals. The department supports the Safety Magic In Law Enforcement (S.M.I.L.E.) program, which teaches children about safety and violence prevention by using a variety of art forms, such as clowning, magic and puppetry.
