The High Museum of Art boasts more than 14,000 permanent pieces of art and exists within the Woodruff Arts Center of Midtown Atlanta. There's something for everyone with collections ranging from folk art to photography to pieces from Renaissance artists at the museum, which is often revered as the greatest art center in the southeast.

Best and worst time to go to the High Museum of Art
The mornings between August and May are typically very busy with school field trips, so visiting in the afternoon is a better option for those wanting to avoid the crowds. The weekends do get crowded as well, especially when there are high profile traveling exhibits.

Must see/do at the High Museum of Art
Visit the Civil Rights-era works in the photography exhibit, the nation's most comprehensive collection. The Skyway level, which is home to Modern and Contemporary Art, has several old and new galleries of interest. The gift shop is also worth a stop on your way out.

Admission to the High Museum of Art
The museum is open Tuesday thru Sunday and is closed Mondays. Admission is free for members and children five and under. Other admission prices range from $12 - $19.50. Advance reservations are available. When purchasing over the phone a service fee is added. The museum sometimes offers discounted options for certain circumstances on their website.

Parking and public transportation to the High Museum of Art
The museum is directly across the street from the MARTA Arts-Center Station, so take the train whenever possible especially during rush hour traffic. Parking in the museum garage is free for the first 30 minutes then ranges from $8 - $12, pending availability. Other paid parking lots are nearby.

Food at the High Museum of Art
For a quick caffeine fix or bakery treat visit CJ's Coffee Cart in the Margaretta Taylor Lobby. Light snacks and lunches are available at High Café. For fine dining and cocktails, be sure to dine at Table 1280 which is open most hours the museum is open (hello, BBQ Sticky Buns).

Insider tip for visitors to the High Museum of Art
Visit on Friday evenings for half-price admission from 4pm - 9pm. On the third Friday of the month (excluding October), you can party at the museum and enjoy live music during their Friday Night Music Remix. Check out the HIGHly Hands On blog for fun family-friendly tips and crafts.
