United Steelworkers Local 2009, located in Langley, British Columbia, has a rich history rooted in the International Woodworkers of America. Established in 1937, the IWA initially represented loggers and mill workers in Canada and the United States. Following the merger with the United Steelworkers of America on September 1, 2004, Local Union 2009 was formed through the amalgamation of former IWA local 3567 and USW Local 2952.

With approximately 3000 members across various industries including sawmills, logging, steel fabrication, manufacturing, wood products, nurseries, and more, United Steelworkers Local 2009 has been at the forefront of advocating for better wages, benefits, working conditions, and workplace justice for over 70 years. The union is well-regarded for its contributions in health and safety, equality, human rights, global justice, environmental initiatives, organizing, and educational efforts.

Recognized as the largest private sector union in Canada and North America, with a membership exceeding 225,000 in Canada and over 800,000 continent-wide, the United Steelworkers continues to stand up for the rights of working individuals. Through collective bargaining and the unwavering solidarity of its active and retired members, the union remains committed to championing the dignity of labor and advocating for the well-being of all workers.
