Okanagan Gleaners Society
Okanagan Gleaners Society, established in 1994 by a group of compassionate individuals in the South Okanagan Valley, was driven by a shared concern for global hunger. Witnessing the abundance of fruits and vegetables going to waste in the region, they were inspired to salvage and repurpose this surplus food for those in need.
Operating out of a converted 1920s tobacco-drying barn, volunteers hand-process a variety of vegetables to create a nutritious dried soup mix. Since its inception, the society has produced over 100 million servings of this product, which is distributed worldwide to support communities facing food insecurity.
Supported solely by voluntary donations, Okanagan Gleaners embodies a collaborative spirit, with dedicated volunteers playing a pivotal role in the daily production of dried vegetable products. Their commitment to transforming surplus produce into sustenance for the hungry underscores the society's impactful mission.
