East Prairie Metis Settlement is one of eight Metis Settlements located in Northern Alberta, specifically in Big Lakes County, approximately 20 km south of Highway 2 and 168 km east of Grande Prairie. Founded in 1939, the area has been traditionally inhabited by Metis people well before its official establishment, covering a land area of 33,444 hectares with a population of nearly a thousand residents as of the 2009 municipal census.

The governance of the Settlement is led by a council, which includes a chair and several councillors, working towards the development and welfare of the community. The East Prairie Metis Settlement reflects a rich cultural heritage and a commitment to preserving the rights and traditions of the Metis people in the region.
